Qibla in Houston: questions
What is the Qibla direction in Houston?
The Qibla in Houston is 45.5° from true north, roughly NE. Face that bearing to face the Kaaba in Makkah.
How far is Houston from Makkah?
About 12,574 km (7,813 miles) along the shortest path on the globe.
Why does the Qibla from Houston point NE and not toward Makkah on a flat map?
The Qibla follows the shortest path over the curved Earth (a great circle). On a flat map that path looks bent, so the direction can look surprising, especially from North America.
Does my phone compass show true north?
Many compass apps show magnetic north, which can be several degrees off. The Mood & Dua compass corrects for this and shows when its accuracy is low.
