How to perform ghusl
Ghusl is the full-body washing that restores purity after major impurity.
What is ghusl?
The full-body washing after major impurity, menstruation and postnatal bleeding. Without it one may not pray or touch the Qur'an.
Its obligations (Hanafi)
Three: rinsing the mouth, rinsing the nose and washing the whole body leaving no part dry. In the other schools mouth and nose are sunnah, while the intention is obligatory.
Intention and bismillah
Make the intention for ghusl for the sake of Allah and say bismillah.
Cleaning
First wash the hands and clean any dirt or impurity on the body.
Wudu
Perform wudu as for prayer. If water collects where you stand, wash the feet last.
The whole body
Pour water three times over the head, then the right shoulder, then the left. Rub the body so that no part stays dry, including the navel, behind the ears and the roots of the hair.
